If Kim McDougall could have one magical superpower, it would be to talk to animals. Or maybe to shift into animal form. Definitely, fantastical critters and magic often feature in her stories. So until Kim can change into a griffin and fly away, she writes dark and humorous Urban, Epic and Cozy Fantasy from her little farm at the edge of the woods in Quebec’s Outaouais Region.

What inspired you to write your books?
Animals–and rescue animals in particular–are often at the heart of my writing. Valkyrie Bestiary came about because I wanted to bring that love of animals into a fantasy world.
What’s something readers might not know about you?
During the summer, I write in a tent, deep in the woods.
